ROADS

Claycrete II™ is a liquid to be applied to soils that contain clay. The application of Claycrete II™ will change the charge of the clay portion of the soil and reduce the shrink and swell characteristics that cause structural problems in pavements.

The application rate for Claycrete II™ is very low. One 200 liter drum of Claycrete II™ will stabilize 1000 cubic meters of clay bearing soil or clay bearing gravel. This can be compared to 30-45 tones of cement or lime to achieve similar stability.

The reason that Claycrete II™ is so effective at small doses is because it only reacts with the clay fraction of the soil mix. Cement would be added in large doses to bind all of the soil matrix with sufficient bonding strength to try and resist the expansion of the clay.

The concentration of active ingredients in Claycrete II™ is designed to manage the Cation Exchange Capacity, CEC, below 400. Technical advice should be sought with a Claycrete Global technical adviser.

Claycrete II™ is a unique product to produce strong, flexible and durable pavements. If it is necessary to rework the material, add water to bring the mixture to its Optimum Moisture Content, OMC.

When the moisture levels reach OMC the compaction process is further assisted by the reduced surface tension of the solution. Inter-particle friction is reduced and compaction effort results in improved density.
