Cation Exchange Capacity

To use Claycrete II™ the Cation Exchange Capacity, CEC, is one of the most important values to be aware of. The CEC is found by taking the Plasticity Index, PI and multiplying it by the Fine Fraction (number that passes the 200 sieve) found in your material.

Best results occur when the CEC value is between 50 and 400. If the CEC value is greater than 400, non plastic material should be added to the road material before Claycrete II™ is added. If the CEC value is under 50, clay material can be added to the road.

The calculator below will help to determine how much non plastic material should be added if the CEC value is over 400.

**It is relevant for a standard 8 inch, or 200mm, pavement.
